THOUGHTS FROM SUZANE

We've already set the clocks forward, a little earlier this year. . . could it be that spring is still around the corner? As I sit looking out my window seeing the glistening snow on the ground and listening to the howling wind, I wonder where the groundhog is. Will this be another instance of "March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb?" Time will tell!

I was raised in a small rural farming town and both of my parents came from farming backgrounds, so I'm sure this has influenced my strong belief in the "Farmers' Almanac". The Almanac still reigns in the accuracy of weather; it's nice to know that even with changes in Mother Earth there remains something constant! Those who have read my newsletters over the years know how strongly I adhere to nature, the Earth, and the changing seasons. I know how much they naturally affect our lives, especially for those of us that experience four seasons. Of course, the big change for many is leaving "Old Man Winter" and welcoming in spring. However, even those of you in the warmer parts of the country (Malibu, for example) got to experience snow! Wherever you are, I want to share a little wisdom with you to help you jumpstart bringing in the Spring Equinox, which is on March 21st.

What better way to bring in spring than start a new way of thinking? These thoughts came to me when a close friend of mine asked me recently if I had seen the DVD, "The Secret", and did I believe it was true? In case you didn't know, this new DVD rocked the spiritual community, plus it landed on Prime-Time TV and Oprah! My first response to my friend was, "Let me make it clear, 'The Secret' has been around since the Bible. Yes, it is true, and it's really no secret at all! It is based on one of the most important universal principles in science: Every action has a reaction, and each action creates a ripple effect. The same principle is in the Bible with the idea of what you sow you reap, and one must give in order to receive. This universal law is thusly known as the law of attraction."

What you radiate outward in your thoughts, feelings, mental pictures and words, you attract into your life and affairs. You cannot get something for nothing. I'm sure you have encountered people in your life that always have their hands outstretched. Look at their lives, and I guarantee you'll find they are very unhappy. No matter what your life has or does not have, there is always something you can give. Giving does not have to be materially-based. It can happen in so many ways, from the simplest gesture of helping someone elderly with their groceries, to the single mom struggling with the strollers on the subway or getting to the car. If there is one thing I've encountered boundlessly in my life and work, it is how people turn around tragedy in their lives. I have always said they are the real heroes. We are where we are because of what we are . . . and we are what we are because of our habitual thinking.

Ok, now I'll tell you how I learned about the "Secret". I'm not going to take credit for understanding why and how this principle works; I just know that it works. I believe we bring into our life what we put out energetically. I believe I have never had a bad experience with the world of spirit because I believe without question that I am protected by God or a Higher Source. I knew this as a little girl without going to church to learn it. I believe it is for this reason that I have brought in wonderful teachers who guided me through my journey as a medium.

So, moving onto how I encountered one of most inspirational teachers of the "Secret". While living in the City of Angels in the mid '70's, I heard about a woman named Catherine Ponder. I was told she gave lectures at a place called Manny Hall in Pasadena and that I should go to see her. Mind you, I was young, and avoiding my path as a medium, but I felt drawn to go see her there. I sat in the audience and soon onstage walked this very little old lady whose size was about the only thing little about her . . . she had an aura the size of an entire football stadium! It was there I had the privilege to meet Catherine Ponder. In 1962 she wrote a book called The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity, which was only one of her many books. She also wrote The Richest of Abraham, The Healing Secrets of the Ages, and The Dynamic Laws of Healing, among others. She wrote about "The Secret" long before the DVD, much of which might have been inspired by her. Her books have been my bible in all my years of teaching. So if you're mesmerized by "The Secret", and want to know of one of the most inspirational sources of this knowledge, read Catherine Ponder's work. I myself have kept her books in print! I will also add that it was teachers like her that inspired me to know how important good teachers are. The good ones will teach you something that you will be able to utilize in your life . . . as the saying goes, "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for the day, teach him to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime." That, my friends, is one of the most valuable secrets you can know. So if you want to see "The Secret" DVD, or read the book, do so. But if you want to learn all the most valuable principles to affect every area of your life, read Catherine Ponder.

Now that is a great way to ring in the spring! Go plant your seeds, then sit back and let the laws of attraction work for you in every aspect of your life.

Your Questions Answered

The first question this month was raised on my message board by Karen A. She recently posted:

"Hello to everyone!

I would like to ask everyone's ideas, beliefs, opinions, etc., on the difference, if any, between being Spiritual or Religious. Also, your beliefs on if there is actually a 'hell.'"

So, what is the difference between religion and spirituality?

Religion is the way many chose to express their beliefs in God. Each religion has its own Dogma in what constitutes the way or ways one should live their life. Most religions adhere to certain principles that determine how God will judge your life, and in order to get into "Heaven" or have God's blessings, one must live by those principles. It is my personal feeling that this type of approach focuses on the fear or wrath of God, rather than the loving forgiving aspect I believe is the essence of God.

One does not have to go to church, temple or to an ashram to have a relationship with God. You as a spiritual person determine your relationship with God, which is within rather than without. With many of the Western practices, it is believed that one goes to a priest, rabbi or a minister to understand the teaching of this doctrine. Eastern beliefs focus more on inner connection with God and on meditation where you have a direct relationship with God.

Honestly, they both have their place, but I believe that nothing can be more special or personal than to know you can and do have a personal relationship with God or that Higher Consciousness.

The next two questions come from Claire Clarke. Claire asked:

"First, is it possible to pre-arrange meetings between two people so that whoever dies first, if they can, to come back and let the other person know that they are 'okay'? I'm wondering if you think or know if this possible, and if so, if you knows firsthand of it happening to someone?
 
Also, within my family, there have been about a half-dozen people who were born in November, including myself. I am now (and have been for years) the only one living who was born in this month. Also, there have been about the same number of deaths that also occurred during this month. Some of these were of people also born in November, but others have also died in November who were born in other months. I have even had pets die in this dreaded month. I'm wondering if you might know what the connection/cycle might be with this 'family curse,' I guess it could be called."

To be honest, you can arrange a meeting if you feel it is necessary, but all of us are met by our loved ones when we pass over. The "bond" of love is always the most powerful source there is. So yes, I do know this first hand, and in many of my sessions it is mentioned by the DP's who was there upon making their transitions.

As for the connections within your family . . . I understand why you would think of November as a "curse", with so many passings having happened around the same time. But please remember that there were births as well, which adds to the connections within a family. I have found it quite common for many people to pass around the same time as their birthdate. In your case, it honestly doesn't seem odd that there would be many deaths and births around the same time. Another aspect to consider is the common connection of November being a significant Holiday time . . . which I've also experienced as time for loved ones passing.

In light of all this I'd like to add one more thought. We believe death is the end, but in all honesty it's the beginning, as our soul and spirit essence continue. So the connection to November might just be the continued honoring within your family to your connections of births, deaths, and so on.

These are just some of my thoughts. I believe November would be a wonderful time for you to listen to all the ways your loved ones connect with you in dreams, and the many ways of ADC's (after-death-communications) that happen.
