Thoughts From Suzane

Autumn is once again upon us, and we are overwhelmed by its breathtaking beauty, change and message.  Each of us prepares for our own personal harvest of sorts as well, since the fall (like spring) has it own energy of "beginnings". Those beginnings will soon lead us into Halloween, Thanksgiving and the December holidays.  If I was unaware of the approaching holidays before, I was certainly reminded in the airport, where signs of shopping for holiday gifts were already lit up in the Brookstone store, even though it was still September!

The thought came to my mind about the countless changes that have occurred giving rise to spiritual awakening since I began my work over thirty years ago. Not so long ago scientists, doctors (in all fields), and biophysicists would have never wanted to be on a medium’s show, let alone seek one out for their own connections! Now they are! I find this incredibly exciting and a wonderful time in history. For me personally, it’s heartfelt, for what this change shows is a deeper meaning that touches all of us. It reminds us, once again, that we all want to share in this wondrous peace, and in turn heal not only ourselves, but the planet and animals and every being that benefits from our love.

One of my recent radio guests, a PhD from Harvard, was sharing a story about how one glorious fall morning while walking down the mountain with her dog Max, her thoughts drifted to the results that she was waiting to hear about, regarding her recent biopsy for breast cancer. All of a sudden, out of the blue comes this big dog that proceeded to bite her in the butt! All her thoughts started jumbling together - “I'll have to get a tetanus shot, probably stitches and miss my doctor appointment!" Going into the bushes to check out her butt "situation", she saw that everything was all right. No skin was broken, and she would make her doctor’s appointment after all. She found out all the tests were negative . . . and in this case, a "negative" was a positive!

I kept thinking about how true it is that we tend to think "negatives” are bad, when in fact many "negatives" such as this one are actually positive. Consider the person who misses the plane that goes down, or someone who runs out the door forgetting their keys to the office, and runs back home just in time to find their child breaking out with the measles. It really is so true that when our thoughts are negative, we can turn them around if we can just take a deep breath, trust in the moment and know in our inner being that everything happens for a reason. Most of time, the situation will be just fine.

It has truly been a blessing to me in my work, to exchange and share stories with so many who have found strength through pain while walking along their paths. In particular, stories of our loved ones going into spirit, and how it changes our lives. The same doctor from the story above shared with me the story of her mother’s passing. While sitting next to her mother and holding her hand, the PhD closed her eyes, sat in a meditative state, and when she looked up saw that the whole room was filled with light! It was so bright that as she looked over she saw tears going down the face of her son, who was also present. At that moment she knew that whatever difficulty she ever had with her mother was all gone; gone into the place where all souls are connected and we are not separated. She had never experienced anything like it before or since. I can only believe that this experience was the inspiration for her book, Your Soul's Compass. Yes, our PhD is none other that Dr. Joan Borysenko.

On a different note, as many of you know, October is the month of my favorite holiday (next to Christmas, that is), Halloween. Also called Samhein (SOW-in), this time is thought to be one where the veil between this world and the spirit world is the thinnest. Many of us know it as the time where little children dress up in delight and go trick or treating! October is also the month where so many individuals and organizations walk, run, and raise money to give support in numerous ways for breast cancer. I don’t need to tell you how many women and families are impacted by breast cancer – indeed my own mother is a survivor. There are many of us who are grateful for those prayers, support, and awareness for what is the most important thing in life, which is love.

That, my friends, is still the most significant force we know - love.  It is written and spoken by every sage, from every spiritual teaching and from every religious sect known: our connection and union with the Source some call God.

Warmly,

Suzane

Your Questions Answered

The first two questions this month came from Pam. She first asked this:

Hi Suzane, I attended one of your seminars with my Mom and sister in law a few years back, to connect with my brother who had passed away January of 2005. We were very disappointed that he hadn't contacted us and left the seminar a little discouraged. How do we know that he is around us? How do we know that he is okay? Also, why did he die alone? Did he know that he was going to die. Not sure of the cause of death either. My mom feels that is around her? If you have any answers to my questions I would appreciate it.

Pam: I'm sorry for your loss. As you know I have no control of who does or doesn't come through during a seminar. However, in saying that, I would like for you to open yourself up and trust that your brother has tried to contacted you in several possible ways. I know he has, because of his love for you and your mom . . . it's just that sometimes in our grief we miss the connection. It seems like your mom knows that's true!

I will emphasize: NO ONE dies alone. If there was no one physically around your brother, it was, honestly, his wishes. We pick and choose our passing, and I assure you he was met by loved ones. I understand that you may want to know why or how he died in the way that he did, but again, what I believe to be of most importance is that he is fine, in no pain, and yes, he will continue to love you and your mom.

Pam's next question was regarding her "fur baby" on the Other Side:

I'm not sure if you are able to connect with pets, but our family dog of 7 1/2 years passed away the other day. She was stricken ill with cancer. My husband is taking this really hard, and is really upset that she was alone when she died. Does our dog know that we loved her, and that we are lost without her? Is she upset that we weren't there when she died? Because she died at home, is her ghost within the house? Your response will help us to try and understand and go forward.

Pam,

Oh, you are so sweet! Those that love the little two- and four-legged ones are the people that make a difference because they show so much love from the heart. Now, what you need to know is your doggie is not alone, and wanted to have the dignity of her passing by having your not being there. I believe her presence in the house lets you know this . . . and yes, this is her way of letting you know she is around. It is always about the living, so that is why they let us know they are around in the best way possible.

Please trust that she is just fine and wants you and your husband to know that, because she loves you. All the best to you!

The third question this month came from Barbara Ouellette:

Suzane: I had a friend give me one of your books several months after my husband passed unexpectedly. He was only 48 years young and died of a massive heart attack while I was at work. I found him when I returned home on a Friday evening. I never grieved in the manner that one would think a person would. I was left with two young men (sons who were 17 & 19 at the time). He died 7/22/05. I miss him but, again, truly don't believe I ever truly grieved. I had to go back to work sooner than I should have had to but due to financial responsibilities I had no choice. I am 57 years old myself and find I have absolutely no interest in a mate or any kind! I guess what I am saying is I go through the motions of each day but find little enjoyment in life. Everything seems to be a struggle.

I have had only one dream that included my husband in it and we were having an argument! That was unsettling to say the least! Ours was a rocky marriage but one filled with mutual love. 23 years together and just getting to the point in our lives that we could relax and enjoy one another and, poof, he was gone. Could my anger with what happened be preventing me from connecting with him? Like a block? What can I do to improve my chances of connection? He was not a happy soul here on earth. He often told me he would die young. His was an old soul while on earth and I wonder what became of him when he left this life. Thank you.

Barbara,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss; firstly, because you were ready to enjoy your time together, but mostly because of your feeling that you were ready to enjoy that time and yes, it was cut short. Now, you need to know that grieving is a very individual process for each person. Maybe it was because your sons were young, or maybe it was him knowing on a soul level (although not knowing what that meant at the time) that his life would be cut short . . . either way, there are many questions and "what ifs". But what I would rather say is this: You need to know that you were and are loved, and that you have done the best possible job you could with your sons. Your husband knows your place is a difficult one, and you have made his transition as "easy" as possible on your family. I trust how much he honors that - it's something you should feel so proud about, because honestly, you're in the most difficult place. Take that to your heart; you need to know the importance of that, as I know he would admire and honor it himself . . . after all, you are his wife, they are his sons.

And lastly, the final question for this month:

Hello,

I went to one of your seminars in Albany, NY, and enjoyed it very much. I am seeking some advice for my 6 year old; ever since he was born he seemed mature. He is a very in tune with feelings around him and is very sensitive boy. He has always very calmly told me he sees things like people, blue light in corner of room, and sparkling lights. I simply tell him that it is ok and I ask how he feels. He says he is not scared. Can you explain what these things may be and tell me what to say to him? Thanks so much.

A special boy you have, indeed! Then again, all children are special if they're allowed to express themselves, as it sounds your boy can. I can't say for sure what he's tuning into, but it has all the earmarks of being able, quite literally, to tap into information or, better said, psychic intuitive messages. If you've heard me talk before, you know I speak strongly about children and their connections. I feel what you are doing is great letting him safely share his thoughts, and that will be the way for him to continue to trust. You may want to check ou the book, Children of Now by Dr. Meg Blackburn, or you can listen to her on my show, from the archive section; she writes extensively of her experiences with children. Enjoy each moment with your special one!

On a Personal Note

I'd like to end this month's newsletter with an inspirational passage:

We live by faith or we do not live at all. Either we venture - or we vegetate. If we venture, we do so by faith simply because we cannot know the end of anything at it's beginning. We risk marriage on faith or we stay single.

We prepare for a profession by faith or we give up before we start. By faith we move mountains of opposition or we are stopped by molehills.
